Introducing a simpler and easier bowel prep for colonoscopy

  • The HygiPrep is performed on the same day as your colonoscopy, prior to your scheduled colonoscopy. It replaces the traditional colonoscopy preparation you may be used to.

    Patient Instructions for HygiPrep will be provided to you when scheduling your prep. A few days prior to your scheduled visit you will receive a call to review the instructions.

    Our trained Prep Tech will lead you to your private room where you will be seated on the sanitized basin.
    A sterile disposable nozzle will be introduced into the rectum.
    A gentle stream of warm water will flow into the bowel, loosening stool.

    Water continues to flow allowing you to comfortably and discreetly evacuate your colon. The Prep Tech will instruct you on completion of the HygiPrep, which routinely takes less than an hour.

The HygiPrep

  • The prep is performed at a HyGIeaCare® Center in a safe, private, sterile and comfortable environment.
  • Our trained Prep Tech will lead you to a private room where you will be asked to be seated on the ergonomic basin.
  • The Prep Tech will lead you through the procedure which routinely takes less than 1 hour.
  • You will be asked to introduce a small, sterile, disposable and lubricated nozzle into the rectum.
  • A gentle stream of warm water will flow into the bowel, loosening stool and inducing peristalsis,  allowing you to comfortably and discreetly evacuate your colon, while urinating at will.
  • Water continues to flow and gently cleanse your colon.
  • The Prep Tech will determine when your colon is sufficiently clean for colonoscopy and instruct you on completion of the procedure.

Did you know?

The importance of good bowel cleansing is the key for a high-quality colonoscopy. An incomplete standard prep can result in poor cleanliness, which will make it more difficult for your gastroenterologist to complete the endoscopy procedure satisfactorily.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States. Colonoscopy can prevent CRC by the detection and removal of precancerous lesions. In addition to CRC screening and surveillance, colonoscopy is used widely for the diagnostic evaluation of symptoms and other positive CRC screening tests. Regardless of indication, the success of colonoscopy is linked closely to the adequacy of pre-procedure bowel cleansing.

Unfortunately, up to 20–25% of all colonoscopies are reported to have an inadequate bowel preparation. The reasons for this range from patient-related variables such as compliance with preparation instructions and a variety of medical conditions that make bowel cleansing more difficult to unit-specific factors (e.g., extended wait times after scheduling of colonoscopy). Adverse consequences of ineffective bowel preparation include lower adenoma detection rates, longer procedural time, lower cecal intubation rates, increased electrocautery risk and shorter intervals between examinations.
